Clearing Space for Mind, Body and Focus
Summary:
A short, intentional reset can restore clarity when life begins to feel scattered. This 30-day personal experiment removes alcohol, refined sugar and other distractions while focusing on hydration, movement and discipline. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s creating space to reset habits and regain focus.
Every so often, life begins to feel noisy. Work piles up, routines slip, and the habits that once kept things balanced slowly drift out of place. When that happens, the best solution is often simple: pause, reset and start fresh.
Recently I began noticing that my thoughts felt less focused and my energy less steady. That realization prompted a personal challenge: a 30-day reset designed to clear out a few habits that were no longer helping and replace them with small daily actions that support clarity and well-being.
This isn’t a punishment or a strict diet. It’s simply a structured way to regain balance.
The Plan
The reset itself is intentionally straightforward:
- No alcohol, soda or refined sugar for 30 days
- At least one gallon of water each day
- A 30-second plank every day
It’s not complicated, but it’s consistent, and I believe those small, steady actions will create a big shift over the course of a month. It’s simple, but intentional: small, consistent actions that I believe will make a big difference.
Why I’m Doing This
Lately, my complexion has been suffering, and I know why. I’ve been overworking myself, pushing too hard until I burn out, and then spending days trying to recover.
On top of that, I’ve been socializing more to maintain some semblance of a personal life, but it’s left me feeling scattered and unsettled.
The stress has been quietly weighing me down, and the habits I’ve leaned on: wine to unwind, sugar for a quick energy spike, skipping workouts, haven’t supported me.
This purge is my way of pressing the reset button.
What I Hope to Gain
For the next 30 days, I want to cleanse and rehydrate my system; not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. I’m hoping this reset will give me the foundation to keep building on long after the challenge ends. I want my skin to glow, my energy to feel steady, and my mind to feel lighter.
Most of all, I want to prove to myself that I can commit to a promise and keep it.
My Goals:
Clearer thinking
Without alcohol or sugar spikes, the mind tends to feel sharper and more focused.
Better physical energy
Hydration and movement support steady energy throughout the day.
A calmer emotional baseline
When the body is supported properly, stress becomes easier to manage.
Stronger discipline
Small commitments kept daily reinforce the ability to follow through on larger goals.
The Symbolism of Starting Fresh
In some traditions, Samhain, Halloween, is known as the Witches’ New Year. I love the symbolism of that.
This feels like the perfect time to reboot my life, shed old habits, and step into the next chapter with renewed energy.
When we align our personal rituals with the seasons, change feels less like struggle and more like flow.
This purge isn’t just about what I’m removing; it’s about what I’m making space for: clarity, focus, and intentional living.
If You Want to Try Your Own Reset
Anyone can experiment with a reset period. The key is choosing habits that feel achievable rather than extreme.
A few ideas:
Choose one or two habits to remove
Sugar, alcohol, late-night scrolling or anything that tends to drain energy.
Add a daily anchor habit
A short workout, meditation or journaling session works well.
Track the experience
Noticing changes in sleep, mood and energy often reveals the biggest benefits.
Focus on progress, not perfection
Consistency matters more than flawless execution.
Why Small Challenges Work
Short-term commitments create momentum. They offer a contained experiment rather than an overwhelming life overhaul.
After 30 days, the outcome is usually clear. Either the habits feel worth keeping—or the experience reveals what needs to change next.
In both cases, the process builds awareness.
And awareness is often the first step toward lasting change.
The next 30 days for me are about clarity, focus, and intentional living. Wish me luck, and if you feel inspired, join me, I’d love to hear what your own purge might look like.
